Dear Katie,

You can subscribe to the RSS feed, which is a good way of letting you know when a new blog has been posted. Other than that, just check the website from time to time. I notice that you live in Pinecraft. My seventh novel, Harmless as Doves, which will be publilshed this summer, takes place in Pinecraft, at least in part, and a few of my blogs were written about Pinecraft, too.

With thanks,
Paul Gaus

How can I subscribe to your blog and recieve it on email? I seemingly can't find the right button to push. I am formerly from Holmes county Ohio but now live in Pinecraft Florida. I came upon your blog via Erik Vissner's site. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your review, Caryl. I appreciate your evaluation and the story synopsis - very accurate - and I am happy you are a fan. The I Love a Mystery newsletter is one of my favorites, and I look forward to seeing how my series with Penguin/Plume does at independent mystery stores like I Love a Mystery in Kansas City.

Dear Mr. Gaus,
I recently wrote a review of Broken English for iloveamysterynewsletter.com and I thoroughly enjoyed your book. You do an excellent job of setting a chilling, raw scene without resorting to raw language and sensationalism.
I just submitted a query to an agent for representation of my newest novel. I have four published--two by a small publisher who did nothing for me and two self-published (It takes a lot of money and time to do agent-work for yourself.)
I am hoping for the best while I tweak.
You have a new fan!

I like your blog. Another observation about identifying an Amish house- the windows appear taller, for their width and are typically double-hung. This allows for more efficient cooling when the top and bottom both are open.
I would be interested to know more about how the Amish shock their corn, if that is something you know about or will learn about.

Dear Mr. Gaus,
A few brief questions:
* Do the Amish accept state or federal farm subsidies?
* What steps are the Amish taking to further 'green' energy production, such as biodiesel and passive solar water purification?
* What is the preferred Amish position as regards the internet?
* How in the heck do you all make such great butter, breads, and cheese? Truly, they rank among the best in the world.

Thank You,
Ben Stone
Dayton, Ohio

Thanks for your note, Gene. I am working now to finish the seventh Ohio Amish Mystery, and I think it will be ready early in 2011. In the meantime, all of the stories are going to be republished as Plume paperbacks by Penguin Group USA, beginning in September this year. They will be available at all of the big bookstores around the country, plus Amazon, etc., and I will make an author tour of six cities this fall.

Professor,
I have read your books for years and enjoy them so much. My husband and I often travel the roads and lanes of Holmes and Wayne Co. Bob worked for the USDA for a few years and visited many Amish farms doing surveys. We enjoy the out of the way places, as you do. Doughty Valley is one of our favorite places. We will buy Trail Bologna, Swiss Cheese and crackers at Swiss Valley Bulk Food, head over the hills and dales snacking away.
We also look for innovative agricultural methods among the Amish.
